Axel Rose-berry the First (aka 'the great galut') turns ONE today.
For the record he DID enjoy his birthday corned-meat fritters. axel_1405
And he's freaking right out with delight at his treat.

Great Danes are way smarter than they appear. We had a Dane once upon a time; his heart was too big and it didn't last.

They are the greatest of greatest guard dogs. I could take him any where and he wouldn't hurt a fly; My daughter on the other hand, he was a totally different animal. If another kid came up to her that she didn't know and wanted to play, he was a big stuffed animal and would let you do anything you wanted to him.

The best was when someone came up to her she didn't trust. Not a single person on earth would know if my daughter would trust someone to come up to her... No one except one... A dog. If my daughter didn't trust somebody... he knew it, and they didn't stand a chance at breaking her space. I trusted that dog more than I trusted myself. I haven't owned a dog since.

Michael - I know. He's actually much-doted on... as was his predecessor Cosmo: http://bushbabe.blogspot.com/2008/10/reflections-of-way-things-used-to-be.html

Took me two years to give my heart over again...

Ah, happy birthday big guy!

Buddy just turned six on February 1st.

He did not get cake. We did sing though. He showed his displeasure by shredding some Kleenex.

What a big boy. Good thing he keeps all of his excitement on the inside or he would be a one dog wrecking machine.

One already? Geesh. He doesn't look a day over 11 months.

Awww, Axel's a sweetie! Happy Birthday to him.

And from an American Oz girl to the Bush Oz girl, I'm glad you found me. I love your blog and your photos are marvelous... esp the ones of your kids playing in the gully!

Hope you've had a delightful weekend, and I'll be back around. :-)

Oh Axel - you hunk of a dog. I just want to pick up those big slobbery jowls and give you a big birthday smooch! I can't belive how you contain your excitement over your unique birthday cake. Your restraint is amazing. I'm sure once the photos were done you just woofed it down in one go. Happy Birthday big boy :)

Happy Birthday big guy!

Hard to believe that I've been following this blog for a year now. (dabs at tear in the corner of eye) I remember when you were a wee pup. What a handsome guy you are now.

Holy Moses that is one BIG dog to love. I don't think all three of mine put together = the size of that guy! Happy Birthday Axel Rose. I can see how much your family loves you.

I've passed THE SUNSHINE AWARD on to your mommy. She probably has lots of them but, it was my first and I'm passing it on to the blogs I love the most. Congratulations and Blessings
