And he did what no-one had ever done before. He showed me it was worth a little effort, this thing called love.
And that it was far more fun to give than to receive.
That said, I adored receiving five long-stemmed red roses while visiting Italy together nine years ago when February 14 came around. We were in a town just outside Venice (called Mestre I believe) at a quaint little hotel just off a piazza. My man snuck off early to do something massively out-of-character: put his heart on his sleeve and buy flowers! Mr Incredible's italian was very basic, and he wasn't game to argue with the florist when the number of blooms came in one below that anticipated. We laughed and I fell even deeper in love.
...
I don't get flowers often and I don't worry about that - the memory of that posy is enough. And now these two also own my heart...
Of course the mushrooms on toast that I got for Valentine's Day this morning were a fabulous expression of love. At this very moment my tummy loves Mr Incredible to bits.

We've got a few more hours here but I know what you mean.
Happy V-day!
My husband never misses this one--even though he has to ask someone every year what day Valentines falls on. He knows it's in February, but that's it.
We still have a few hours to go here.
Okay that pic of Mr. Incredible is awesome! He looks like The Man From Snow River, sigh...
I haven't had a great v-day yet but that's probably because i haven't met my Mr. Incredible yet. I will spend the day babysitting for my brother and sis in law so that they can enjoy V-Day :-)
And your kids are so stinkin' cute!
I hope to spend Valentine's day with a special boy tomorrow! ;)
xoxo! Have a great one!
Happy Valentine's Day
Mine doesn't start for a few hours but I'm going to a movie with my sister and other girlfriends! Sunday hubs and I are going for brunch :)
Happy Valentines day BB.
Happy Valentines Day.. reading your post inspired me to confess our 'disasterous' very first VD.. lol. All these years later and we still laugh...
Cheers,
Audrey.
I have never been a big Valentine's Day aficionado. I think I will have my neice's family down for the day -- she has a lovely husband and 3 beautiful girls.
Also, my son is moving, so I may be helping with some of that -- nothing says "I love you" like helping move the couch!
Husband bought me chocolates for the first time in years...and I so appreciated the thought and effort it took for him to leave his work at the farm and drive to town....so sweet of him....
You are blessed Bush Babe and you know it. Thanks for sharing the love. Now go enjoy!
Ah, how sweet.
Hubby made me breakfast this morning - eggs, turkey bacon, coffee in a humungous mug - all my favourites.
It's cold and windy and sunny today, so we're staying in and cocooning. But there'd better be chocolate in there somewhere, even if it's Chipits.
Happy V Day!
It's goin. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful family.
If I had a man like Mr. Incredible in that first photo flowers would be an after thought.
Loved the Italy story, too.
Helen
For me, the mushrooms on toast are far more romantic than flowers.
Happy Valentine's Day to all of the Granite Glen crew.
Is that a wild bird the kids are feeding?
What a great story! I am lucky to have a great guy that knows I love this holiday! Happy Valentine's Day to you!
Thanks for the love today guys...
DD - welcome and love your site!
Debby - Happy V day to you and Tim! Yes that's a wild bird - a lorikeet I think.
Jeanie - absolutely!
Helen - Italy seems like a million light years ago... it was a great time in my life! Mr I is blushing furiously...
Lil Mama and Steviewren - I know. I waited a while for 'em and I treasure 'em all!
Pam - you have got it sorted girlfriend! Does he rouse on you about cavities with the chocolate??
3Collie - good on him! What a keeper...
Lydia - I get your sentiment totally. It really only means something if it is reflected in what goes on the rest of the year. Sounds like your son is a definite Valentine this year though - sweet!
Audrey - just read your post... cracked me up. He needs some more encouragement though!!!
Gem - hope yours was cooler, less smokey, and that you and your family got to think about something other than fires for a couple of hours... hugs!
DD and CJS - hope it was/is a great weekend...
PG - spill! Who is he??
Kate - that man is just waitin' for you.. I can feel it! Did I ever mention that the latest series of A Farmer Wants a Wife is on the TV - lots of Aussie farmers looking for wives. Hmmmmmm.
MP and Sue - hope it went well and lots of smiles were had!
Hugs
BB
Great pictures and what a fabulous post, Happy Valentine's Day!
Yes, Valentine's Day is over here, 43 minutes ago, actually :)
Thanks for dropping by my blog and commenting, I hope you'll return :)
Mine went well, BB - the day (or should I say evening) culminated in the two of us on a blanket in the backyard looking up at the stars.
:-)
