So here you go - meet Mama Roo and her half-grown joey.
These photos were snapped about 15km from our house, in our steer paddock.
Notice how, as our dry winter sucks the colour from the landscape,
the kangaroos begin to blend perfectly with the sepia grass...
making it all the trickier
to shoot them accurately
....with a CAMERA!

Wild creatures are wonderous. Even the ones that annoy and are pests. Perhaps even the ones that destroy. Those kangaroos are beauties. Good shots...er photos.

I'm still a Yank to the core and go all soft and mushy over roos. They are just so cute! i will get to Australia someday and i will take five million pictures of roos :-)
So I am curious now... do Aussies eat kangaroo?
OK... better clear something up. I don't shoot roos with anything other than a camera. Never have, never will. However, when kangaroo culls do happen when there are plague numbers. Someone else gets that task.
I have tried roo meat - once - and found it very gamey. Edible but gamey. Not too many Aussies actually eat it in my experience - more likely tourists. There is a push to farm it more but I am pretty happy with our current selection of meats!! And as you know, Skippy is always safe in our house paddock!!
